- Abstract
- We describe how the basic observables of ultra-high energy cosmic rays (UHECR), the composition, the energy spectrum, and the arrival directions, can be used to identify their origin. We focus on the arrival directions and develop a statistical test method to quantify the significance level of the given hypothesis for the sources based basically on the angular correlation between the sources and the cosmic rays and that between cosmic rays themselves. This method is applied to test the super-heavy dark matter (SHDM) model for the UHECR origin by using the SUGAR and the PAO data and the SHDM model is found to be disfavored.
