- Abstract
- The simulated distillation (SIMDIS), a method of analyzing the boiling point distribution of pyrolysis oil using gas chromatography, is well known as ASTM D2887 method. It is widely used because of its simple and fast analysis characteristics. In this work, we used the gas chromatography and then calculated the number of theoretical plate (N) and height equivalent to a theoretical plate (HETP) of both DB-2887 and QUADREX 007-1 columns. We chose DB-2887 column since it was more suitable for SIMDIS analysis based on the column efficiency. By DB-2887 column, calibration was first executed by using standard samples such as ASTM D2887 and ASTM D6296-CAL1 and then, boiling point distribution table of hydrocarbon was listed. Also, the SIMDIS of pyrolysis oil and bitumen was executed. This paper introduced how the analysis data by the SIMDIS were applied. In order to show the application of SIMDIS analysis data, the characteristics of pyrolysis oil and bitumen were analyzed and compared by the boiling point distribution of SIMDIS and the contents of naphtha, middle distillate, heavy oil in total volatile.
