- Abstract
- The goal of this study was to explore a possible association between the genetic polymorphism in the apolipoprotein E(ApoE) gene and serum lipid profiles and cardiac structure and function in 33 athletic and 35 control men. Serum lipid profiles of study subjects were measured by automatic analyzer, and Analyses on cardiac structure and function by M-mode echocardiography, respectively. Also, genotyping of ApoE gene polymorphism was analyzed by SNaPshot method. There was significant difference in allele frequency of this polymorphism between controls and athletes(p<.05), but there were not significant associations between this polymorphism and any echocardiographic data in the both groups. With respect to the serum lipid profiles, athletes with ε4 allele indicated significantly lower serum TG level than those with ε3 allele(p=.05). Therefore, our results suggest that ApoE gene polymorphism might be one of useful genetic marker influencing serum TG level in athletes.
