윤리와 실존으로서의 종교의식

Abstract

박두진 시의 전개 과정을 가로지르는 시적 대상은 자연이다. 그만큼 자연은 박두진 시학의 수원(水源)이자 궁극적 거처이기도 하였다. 그런가 하면 그의 일관된 미학적 후경(後景)은 종교 의식이다. 그의 일관된 정신적, 방법적 추진력이 되고 있는 종교 의식은 시적인 것과 종교적인 것의 통합을 꾀한 것이었다. 박두진은 종교 의식이라는 프리즘을 통해 초기 시편으로부터 일관되게 초월적 존재의 온전성과 그것의 투영으로서의 지상적 질서(자연, 인간, 신성)의 완성을 노래한 시인이다. 따라서 박두진 시편은, 다양한 실험과 변모에도 불구하고, 이러한 종교 의식의 일관된 전제와 전개로 나타났다고 할 수 있다. 그의 초기 시편들은 비극적 시대를 관통해오면서도 미래에 대한 강한 희망을 노래하고 있다. 이른바 완전무결한 질서에 의해 규율되는 이상향을 그리는 유토피아주의야말로 그의 종교 의식의 핵심이고, 그것이 구상화된 대상이 바로 자연이다. 그러다가 해방 후 그의 종교 의식은 현실 지향적 성격을 강화한다. 그는 의연한 저항적 정열과 초월적 견인 의지를 결합하여 무수한 시편들을 쏟아내는데, 이때 그의 신앙과 지성은 하나로 결합되어 시의 결을 이룬다. 그리하여 그는 기독교 의식과 윤리, 나아가 인간의 실존적 의미를 묻는 작품들을 쓰게 된다. 이러한 속성은 후기 시편으로 가면서 수석(水石)을 통해 완전무결한 이상을 꿈꾸게 된다. 이처럼 박두진은 자신의 삶과 의식처럼 산과 해와 돌을 통해 생명을 줄곧 노래하였고, 그것들을 통해 밝은 앞날을 예견한 예언자적 시인의 풍모를 띠었다. 그것은 한마디로 자유 의지의 실현이자 유토피아에 대한 강한 충동의 시적 형상화였다.

A poetical object which traverse process of Park Doo Jin’s poems is the nature. The nature is not only source of poetics but ultimate refuge. His aesthetic consistent background is religious consciousness. This religious consciousness that become his spiritual and methodic consistent driving force integrates poetic things and religious things. Park Doo Jin was a poet consistently singing sanity of transcendental existence through the religious prism from his early poems. Also he expressed completion of terrestrial order; the nature, human, sanctity, as a reflection of sanity of transcendental existence. Therefore, despite of various experiments and transformations Park Doo Jin’s poems appear consistent presupposition and process of religious consciousness. His early poems sing strong hope about future through a tragic era. Utopia described an ideal world ruled by perfect order is a core of his religious consciousness and an exteriorized object of it is the nature. After liberation his religious consciousness strengthen reality directional feature. He combines hard resistant passion and transcendental perseverance will then he writes many poems. In that time, union of his faith and intelligence accomplishes texture of poems. So he writes poems which concern about consciousness and morals of Christianity and ask existent meaning of human. In his later poems, these features dream a perfect ideal through stone. Likewise Park Doo Jin consistently sang life through mountain, the sun and stone like his life and consciousness, so he had a figure of prophetic poet foretelling the future. Speak briefly, it is realization of free will and poetic configuration of a strong impulse on Utopia.
