- Abstract
- Buddhism deny not only language, object, and being but also aesthetic experience and expression. However, overwhelming majorities out of oriental art works are Buddhist art works. The way to solve this contradiction is to seek for the theory or logic that affirm language, object, being, aesthetic experience and expression in Buddhist philosophy. L Wittgenstein say, ''What we cannot speak about we must pass over in silence....... Throw away the ladder after he has climbed up it." Buddhism assert that what you can express it, that is not truth. However, in light of theory of in-eon-gyeon-eon(因言遺言), language can be a ladder to roof, the way to the ultimate truth. The Statue of Buddha in Seokgul-temple can be a way to Buddha, or truth. An object cannot exist. However, theory of bul-il-bul-i(neither one-nor-two) says, object in relation to others is exist as a simulacra in the networking of interrelationship. The statue of Buddha carving an image in rock in Yongjang valley is empty, but it exist as a simulacra and reveals meaning to us. In light of theory of Laksana-Vijnaptimatravadin(consciousness-only for present object: 有相唯識), object is a thing which our consciousness is changed and transfomed. A man as a subject of consciousness can grasp object with interrelation of others after looking the statue of Buddha carving an image in Simeon-rock. The sacred and the profane: is not two in theory of jin-sok-bul-i(Buddha and mankind is not two; 眞俗不二). Man in everyday life can pursue toward the sacred world through the statue of Buddha in niche in Bucheo valley.
