- Abstract
- Many older reinforced concrete (RC) buildings were designed considering only gravity loads. The column members in such buildings could be vulnerable to earthquakes, as they have limited reinforcement details. The aim of this study was to enhance the cyclic behavior of older RC columns using high-performance fiber reinforced cementitious composites (HPFRCCs) comprising polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fibers. Six-full scale column specimens were constructed and tested. The use of the HPFRCC improved the seismic behavior of columns and also delayed the onset of damage stares and of lap-splice failure.
