중국 최초의 영화 <딩쥔산> 제작 연도에 관한 논쟁 연구

Abstract

중국 영화계는 오랫동안 영화 <딩쥔산(定軍山)>을 중국 영화의 시초로 간주해 왔다. 그러나 이에 관한 초기 자료 미비와 화재로 인한 필름 소실로 현재까지 영상 자료나 흔적이 발견되지 않아 이 영화가 중국 영화사상 최초의 영화인지는 여전히 논란이 있다. 본 논문은 중국 영화계에서 논의되어 온 논쟁을 중심으로 중국 최초의 영화에 대한 주요 의문에 대해 살펴보고자 한다. 우선, 현재까지의 선행 연구 및 역사 자료에 근거하여 최초 중국 영화에 대한 논쟁의 시발점을 정리하고, 중국 영화계가 중국 최초의 영화에 대해 의문을 제기하는 이유를 중점적으로 검토하고자 한다. 동시에 이에 대해 현재 진행되고 있는 연구 상황을 살펴본다. 그리고 논쟁 중에 있는 주요 문제 및 논점에 대한 정리와 그것들 각각의 차별점을 파악하고 역사 자료에 대한 재고찰과 현존하는 의문에 대해 보다 명확한 인식과 판단을 하고자 한다. 그럼에도 불구하고 현재 제기되는 근본적 문제점은 아직 구체적이고 명확한 증빙이 없으므로 보다 확실한 증거를 찾아 판단하도록 하고자 한다. 마지막으로 중국 최초의 영화로 인식된 <딩쥔산>의 제작 시기에 대해 다시 한번 검토하고자 한다. 현재 많은 구술 역사 자료와 선행 연구에 의하면 1905년 <딩쥔산> 제작이 가능했다는 사실을 어느 정도는 확인할 수 있다. 현존하고 있는 대량의 구술적 역사와 역사 자료 및 선행 연구를 분석한 결과 명확한 결론을 도출하기 어려운 부분도 있지만 영화 <딩쥔산>이 실제로 존재했다는 가능성의 근거를 확인할 수 있다.

For a long time, the Chinese film industry has identified the film Dingjun Mountain as the beginning of Chinese movies. However, due to the incomplete early information on this history and the lost of film about Dingjun Mountain being destroyed by fire, no relevant video materials or traces are left. Thus, whether Dingjun Mountain is the first film in the history of Chinese cinema becomes a controversial topic. This thesis focuses on the debate in the Chinese film industry over the birth of Chinese movies, mainly studying and discussing the historical debate over the birth of China’s first film and major questions. Firstly, the information of beginning of debate over the birth of Chinese movies is organized based on the prior research and historical sources. The focus is on the reasons why the Chinese film industry questioned the birth of the first Chinese film and a detailed discussion of the questioning issues in the debate and the current state of prior research. Secondly, the main key issues in the debate and the major arguments of the doubts are organized and identified. Through re-reading and detailed study of historical materials, some of the issues and doubts are more clearly understood and perceived. But some of the doubts and problems remain unclear without solid evidence, and so there is still a need to find clear evidence to identify them. Lastly, the birth date of China’s first film, Dingjun Mountain is re-examined. Based on the vast amount of oral history evidence and prior research materials, it is possible to say that Dingjun Mountain was filmed in 1905. Therefore, after a specific analysis and study of a large number of existing oral historical data and current leading research data, it is found that although there are still some problems, a firm conclusion can not be reached at present. However, in fact, from the existing materials, we can find that the film Dingjun Mountain has the possibility of existence.
