- Abstract
- The millimeter wave communication is largely affected by distance dependent large scale fading. With the recent improvements in accurate localization techniques, location information can be exploited to improve the network capacity in an mm-wave channel instead of the more computationally extensive channel state information (CSI). We discuss how the classical waterfilling algorithm can be applied for a location-aware transmission power adaptation in a point-to-point wireless communication. The optimal transmission power to achieve maximal average capacity is computed as a function of the transmitter-receiver distance r when the transmitter is bounded by an average power constraint. Results reveal that capacity improvement is achieved with the proposed transmission power adaptation scheme, and the improvement is prominent when the receiver is distributed closer to the transmitter. We conclude with a discussion on the effect of location estimation error on the average capacity.
