Abstract
Present study proposes a coordinated dynamic power management system (PMS) for renewable energy-based microgrids. The coordinated control framework consists of two parts; one is centralized, and the other is a local layer. The centralized layer optimally allocates the power among the different components in the microgrid, considering their response times, physical constraints on power output, and the state of charge of energy storage devices. The local layer is responsible for the control of the onboard dedicated power converters of the respective power sources. A model predictive control methodology is used for the control of both layers. The functionality of the proposed PMS is verified in hardware-in-the-loop experiments in different operating conditions. The results showed that the dynamic performance of the microgrids with the proposed method is more effective as compared to the conventional method.
