- Abstract
- After an industrial boom in the 1980s, South Korea's cities exploded in size. Old buildings with historical and cultural features are demolished to make way for new buildings. Since then, as environmental protection has becom e the f ocus of society, the m ethod of rebirth of buildings that preserve all or part of buildings and have new functions has been common. In addition, with the improvement of living conditions, people's requirements for the quality of life are also constantly improving. In particular, w ith recent development trends, Spaces to transform old buildings into arts and culture have proliferated. There are also spatial variations to meet the needs of all users. T he design of Universal Design provides creativity for this change of space. Therefore, this study aims to understand the characteristics of universal design through example analysis of cultural and art Spaces used by different groups of people. This study takes three cultural and art Spaces established after 2016 in Seoul, South Korea as the objects for case investigation. Through the first study of the universality of cultural and art space design features are divided into proximity, usability, security and support. T he survey results show ed the highest usability and low support. In most cases, the main entrance and ex it area is large and there are no barriers or barriers. In addition, there is a Braille section. Although for the convenience of f oreigners using English or pictures, but some example did not set Braille. The Braille area which can make the blind walk easily is only set near the entrance and exit of the building, not on the sidewalk. In addition, in m ost ex am ple, there is no independent baby care room, which brings inconvenience to users. n the future, it is necessary to make a universal design plan through the transformation of a variety of cultural and artistic Spaces, taking into account more users.
