2차 체첸 전쟁(1999-2002)과 와하비즘, 그리고 체첸 반군의 테러에 관한 소고

Abstract

본 논고는 1999-2002년에 벌어진 2차 체첸 전쟁의 특성 중 와하비주의와 체첸 반군의 테러를 주된 연구 대상으로 설정했다. 1차 전쟁의 특성이 전 민족적 저항이었다면, 2차 전쟁은 그 성격을 달리한다. ‘와하비주의’(Wahabism)라는 이슬람 극단주의, 군사주의 이념을 가지고 체첸 반군이 러시아에 저항했다. 2차 전쟁 전후로 와하비주의가 강력한 세력을 형성했던 계기는 소련 해체에 따른 직접적인 결과로 말미암았다. 19세기 전반기의 카프카스 전쟁처럼 체첸 반군은 와하비주의를 중심으로 대국 러시아연방에 군사력으로 맞섰다. 그리고 극단적인 테러 활동을 가동하였다. 카프카스 전쟁이 종식된 것은 1864년이었다. 그 이후 체첸 전쟁까지 130년이 흘러갔다. 2차 전쟁의 원류는 19세기 카프카스 전쟁으로 거슬러 올라갈 수 있다. 19세기에도 지하드 항쟁의 기치가 있었다면, 21세기 말에도 지하드 항쟁의 역사적 계승이 있었다. 와하비주의는 지하드의 이슬람 이념으로 기능하였다. 역사적 시간이 흘러갔다. 그런데 그 시간이 지나갔지만 체첸 지역은 아직도 분쟁이 끝나지 않았다. 그리고 그 전통과 기원에는 이슬람 이념들이 존재하고 있다.

In this paper, among the characteristics of the second Chechen war that took place from 1999 to 2002, Wahhabiism and the terrorism of the Chechen peoples were set as the main research subjects. If the characteristics of the first war were national resistance, the characteristics of the second war are different. Chechen people resisted Russia with the ideology of Islamic extremism and militarism called ‘Wahabism’. The reason Wahabism formed a strong force before and after the Second War was the direct result of the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Like the Caucasus War in the first half of the 19th century, the Chechen peoples fought against the great Russian Federation with military power centered on Wahabism. And they launched an extreme terrorist activity. The Caucasus War ended in 1864. After that, 130 years passed until the Chechen war. The origins of the Second War can be traced back to the Caucasus War in the 19th century. If there was a banner of jihad resistance in the 19th century, there was a historical succession of jihad resistance at the end of the 21st century. Wahabism served as the Islamic ideology of Jihad. Historical time has passed. However, that time has passed, but the conflict in Chechnya is still not over. And in its tradition and origin, there are Islamic ideologies.
