여행에서 나타나는 즉흥성의 양태에 관한 담론

Abstract

본 연구는 최근의 여행 트렌드인 즉흥성을 하나의 중요한 여행의 특징으로 파악하고, 해당 속성과 상황과의 관계를 이해하고자 수행되었다. 이를 위해 전위 예술과 춤과 무용 등 예술 분야, 행동경제학에서 즉흥성이 어떻게 다루어지고 있는지를 고찰하였다. 이어 여행 분야에서 즉흥성과 유사한 특징으로 연구되었던 독립 여행, 우연 여행을 고찰한 후, 여행에서의 즉흥성의 특징과 의미를 정리하였다. 여행에서의 즉흥성은 정보 불충분과 일정 미확정이라는 무계획과 이로 인한 비결정성과 불확실성이었으며, 즉흥 여행의 속성은 위험 감수와 주의, 직관, 자유, 충동적 선택이었다. 결과적으로 즉흥 여행은 창의성과 우연성을 양산하고 있었으며, 각각 창의성은 다른 여행자와는 다른 자신만의 차이를 가져왔고, 우연성은 감탄과 성찰에 의한 의미를 제공하고 있었다. 이에 따라 즉흥성이 풍부한 여행을 ‘사전에 충분히 계획을 세우지 않고, 상황에 따라 자유롭고 직관적이며 충동적으로 선택하고 활동하는 여행’이라고 정의하였다. 본 연구는 관광은 물론 다른 분야에서 다루는 즉흥성과 관련된 선행 연구를 고찰하여, 향후 여행에서의 즉흥성에 관한 연구의 기초를 제공했다는 점에서 학술적 의의가 있으며, 앞으로 지속적인 연구가 수행되기를 기대한다.

This study aimed to identify improvisation in travel and understand itsattributes and situations. Literature on improvisation was reviewed in various art fieldssuch as avant-garde art, dance, and behavioral economics. Subsequently, characteristicssimilar to improvisation in travel, such as independent travel and coincidentalexperiences, were considered. From this, the features and significance of improvisationin travel were derived. Improvisation in travel is defined as the occurrence ofunplanned events, such as insufficient information and unconfirmed schedules,leading to indeterminacy and uncertainty. The attributes associated with improvisationinclude risk-taking, attention, intuition, freedom, and impulsive decision-making.Consequently, improvisation in travel fosters creativity and serendipitous encounters.Creativity distinguishes one traveler from another, while serendipity adds meaningthrough admiration and reflection. Thus, ‘improvisation in travel’ is defined as ‘travelthat involves making choices and engaging in activities freely, intuitively, andimpulsively depending on the situation, without extensive planning.’ This study holdsacademic significance as it lays the groundwork for future research on spontaneityin travel, drawing from previous studies on spontaneity in tourism and other fields.It is hoped that ongoing research will continue to explore this area further.
