- Abstract
- Centrifugal pumps are used to transport fluids. Vertical multistage centrifugal pumps are used in variousindustrial fields because they have high pump efficiency and can be installed in places with limited space.
However, the progression of cavitation owing to insufficient suction performance during pump operation undervarious operating conditions is a major limitation. Therefore, in this study, the optimal design of a splitter bladewas derived to improve the suction and hydraulic performances of a vertical multistage centrifugal pump. Thecoordinate value of the 3D Bezier curve, which determines the meridional shape of the splitter blade, wasselected as the design variable. Numerical studies were conducted under various operating conditions, and asurrogate model-based approximate optimization was performed using the design of experiments. The numericalanalysis results were verified experimentally, and the cause of the improvement in the suction performance wasexamined by analyzing the flow field and pressure distribution.
