Abstract
Experimental studies were conducted to analyze the plastic rotation capacity and the effect of replacing transverse reinforcements with steel fibers in diagonal reinforced concrete coupling beams. Six specimens were planned, and the steel fiber reinforcing index and total area of transverse reinforcements were the main variables. Reverse cyclic loading tests were conducted to confirm the seismic performance of the coupling beam. The results showed that the plastic hinge rotation capacity increased and the buckling point of the diagonal reinforcing bars was delayed as the steel fiber reinforcing index increased. An analysis of 78 specimens and the results of previous studies confirmed that ductility improved when the confinement effect of the steel fiber was considered. Application of an equation for ductility requirements reflecting the confining stress of steel fiber reinforced concrete confirmed that the amount of transverse reinforcement could be reduced.
