한말 일제하 재조일본인의 조선고서 간행사업

Abstract

이 논문의 목적은 한말 일제하 재조일본인들이 식민통치에 협조하기 위해 추진한 고서간행사업의 전모를 밝히는데 있다. 이 사업에 관심을 가진 재조일본인들은 조선고서가 조선을 연구하는 ‘유일한 자료’라는 중요성을 인식하고 있었다. 그러나 자료를 구하기 어렵고 가령 구한다고 해도 이해하기 어렵다는 점에 착안하여 이를 본격적으로 조사하고 수집 간행할 단체를 만든 것이다. 이 논문은 고서 간행단체들의 설립목적과 운영방법, 그리고 간행물의 특징과 간행사업의 성격에 대하여 살펴보았다. 이 문제를 검토하기 위해 먼저 조선고서 간행단체인 조선고서간행회, 조선연구회, 자유토구사의 설립목적과 운영진의 구성, 간행물 배포방법 등을 정리했다. 다음 각 단체의 조선고서 간행물의 종류와 내용을 분류하여 그 특징을 검토했다. 마지막으로 각 고서 간행단체의 차이점을 비교하여 그 성격을 분석했다. 결국 막대한 자금과 조직이 필요했던 간행사업은 소네 통감, 데라우치 총독, 사이토 총독의 전폭적인 도움이 아니고서는 추진할 수 없었던 프로젝트였다. 각 단체에 임원으로 간여한 일본인들은 통감부나 총독부의 관료, 본국의 정치인, 교수, 학자, 언론인, 식민지 수탈기구의 수뇌 등 주요인물을 망라하고 있었다. 이것은 한 개인이 만든 단체의 개인 사업이 아님을 입증해 준다.

The Japanese in the Korean Empire when it was under the rule of Japanese imperialism, perceived the importance of the Joseon ancient books as 'the sole data' for researching Joseon. However, it was difficult to discover such data, and even when it was found it was hard to understand; thus, the Japanese pursued a project to publish ancient books. This study looked into the purpose of the establishment of publication institutions for ancient books as well as the character of the published books and the publication project. In order to review this problem, first, the study summarized the purpose of the establishment of the Publication Associate for Joseon Ancient Books, the Joseon Study Institute and the Jayutogusa that were the publication institutions of Joseon ancient books, the organization of the management of the institutions, and the distribution method for the publications. Next, the study classified the type and contents of Joseon ancient book publications of each institution and reviewed their characteristics. Lastly, the study conducted a comparative analysis of differences in each ancient book publication institution. After all, the publication project, which needed tremendous funds and organizations, was a project that could not be implemented without the full support of superintendent Sone, Governor-General Derauchi, and Governor-General Saito.
