담론분석과 정치경제학의 조우 가능성에 대한 탐색적 연구 커뮤니케이션 질적 연구방법론의 몇 가지 논점을 중심으로

Abstract

이 논문은 질적, 비판적, 해석학적 커뮤니케이션 연구에 있어 담론분석이 비언어적 요소, 특히 구조와 맥락, 사회적 총체성 등을 포괄하는 구조적?산업적 분석이나 미디어 정치경제학과 맺는 유기적 관계, 나아가 양자 간의 유사한 인식론 및 문제의식을 밝혀, 향후 비판 커뮤니케이션 및 미디어 문화연구의 방법론적 논의를 확장하고자 하는 의도를 지닌다. 이를 위해 푸코의 담론이론을 포함한 비판적 담론분석의 다양한 해석 및 지류에 대해 논의하였다. 또한 이러한 방법론적 전통이 포착하고 있는 담론이 담론 아닌 것들과 맺는 관계, 이를테면 언어와 상징작용이 미디어 정치경제학의 주된 관심사인 구조와 물질, 생산과 제도 등과 맺는 교호적 관계에 대해 방법론은 물론 인식론적 견지에서도 논의하고, 이들이 창발적으로 접합할 수 있는 가능성 및 커뮤니케이션 연구의 질적 방법론으로서 활용 가능한 방법에 대해 메타 비평적 차원에서 논의하였다.

The purpose of this essay is to expand the scale and scope of the methodological considerations of qualitative, critical, and hermeneutic communication studies and media-oriented cultural studies by collaborating discourse analysis with nonlinguistic elements, especially structural - and/or political economic analysis emphasizing the structure, context, social totality, and the like. For this, a wide variety of pertinent renditions and implications of critical discourse analysis including the Foucauldian discourse theory were discussed. Futhermore the organic relationship between these seemingly antagonistic perspectives, that is to say, discursive with non-discursive criteria pursued by such a methodological tradition was carefully examined. I contend that there is high potential of collaborative and interchangeable relationship between discourse analysis and media political economy, focusing on the structure, material, production, and institution, both in methodological and epistemological level and the possibility of their creative and constructive articulation, despite their notable differences.
