- Abstract
- This study analyzed TNW(Total Number of Words), NDW(The Number of Different Words) and TTR(Type-Token Ratio) in Korean Young Children. TNW is to defined as the total number of words occurred in the same number of utterances. NDW which is the scale to measure the diversity of words, is the meaning numerical value measuring the number of different words occurred in the same number of utterances. TTR is the most widely used statistical method in measuring diversity of words, through which the proportion of different words to the total words can be scaled.
As a result of analysis, in case of TNW and NDW, there was no significant difference statistically across ages and sexes. But with regard to TTR, there was significant difference between 5-year-old Children and 6-year-old Children. A tentative plan on the criterion for evaluating vocabulary skills could be suggested through the analysis result of such lexical diversity.
