Abstract
When a soldier wearing a helmet get non-penetrating ballistic impact on the helmet, he is injured in head and cervical system by energy propagation. Previous researches did not model the cervical system because they focused on head injury only. In this study, analytical model of non-penetrating impact on the helmet considering the cervical system was developed, and the survivability of the soldier was predicted with the model. For predicting the survivability, HIC (Head injury criterion) and NIC (Neck injury criterion) was used. If a solider get impact on the helmet in front direction, he could not survive. However, if the bullet missed slightly on the helmet, the survivability of the soldier increase exponentially. In addition, in some condition, there was heavy injury on the neck, but minor injury on the head. Therefore, both HIC and NIC are considered synthetically as evaluating the survivability of a soldier by non-penetrating ballistic impact on a helmet
