문학 비평에서 동일성과 차이의 쟁점에 관한 연구

Abstract

동일성과 차이의 틀에서 역사주의 비평, 수용미학, 사회학적 시학을 분석하였다. 주관과 객관을 종합하지만, 역사주의 비평은 작가의 동일성을 구성하고 이에 따라 작가의 의도를 추론하고 이를 작품의 의미와 동일화한다. 더 나아가 작품의 생성배경과 사회적 맥락, 작품과 독자의 반응이나 수용을 동일화한다. 이에 이 비평은 독자들이 수용하고 해석하고 감상하며 느끼는 무한한 미적 체험과 의미들의 차이를 소거한다. 앞으로 역사주의 비평은 작가를 당대 사회와 타자, 맥락, 독자에 따라 변하는 차이의 정체성을 가진 자로 해석의 지평을 넓히는 것이 필요하다. 수용미학은 작가의 동일성을 해체하고 독자들이 작가의 구속에서 벗어나 자유롭게 해석하고 지평의 융합을 하고 미적 체험을 하며 실현하는 무수한 차이들을 복원한다. 하지만 수용미학은 ‘내포 독자(implied reader),’ ‘학식 있는 독자(informed reader)’나 ‘이상적 독자(super reader)’의 개념을 내세우면서 독자를 동일성의 영토로 다시 귀환시킨다. 앞으로 수용미학은 모든 독자에게 동등하게 권력을 부여하고 독자들이 텍스트와 만나 끊임없이 해석학적 순환을 하여 지평의 융합을 이루는 것에 좀더 초점을 맞추어야 한다. 사회학적 시학은 작가와 독자의 동일성을 해체한다. 이 이론은 텍스트의 내적 분석으로부터 문학의 사회적 본질을 드러내고, 작가와 독자, 텍스트와 사회적 맥락 사이의 대화를 모색하며, 다성성과 크로노토프(chronotope)의 입장에서 여러 인물들이 각자의 세계관과 시공간에 따라 다양한 목소리로 차이를 드러내도록 한다. 하지만 대화를 모색하면서도 실체론적 사고를 하고 있어 분석, 해석, 미학적 평가가 동일성으로 환원될 여지를 준다. 앞으로 사회학적 시학이 화쟁 사상처럼 이분법과 실체론을 모두 넘어서는 철학을 바탕으로 하여 작가와 독자, 작품과 작가, 텍스트와 맥락, 이론과 텍스트 비평을 하나로 아우르며 차이를 지향한다면 형식주의와 맑스주의 비평을 진정으로 종합하는 이론이 될 것이다.

I analyze historical criticism, reception aesthetics, and sociological poetics in the framework of identity and difference. Although it synthesizes subjectivity and objectivity, historical criticism constructs the author’s identity, deduces the author’s intention accordingly, and identifies it with the meaning of the work. Furthermore, it identifies the background and social context of the work’s creation, and the reader’s reaction or reception. Thus, this criticism erases the differences between the infinite aesthetic experiences and meanings that readers receive, interpret, appreciate, and feel. From now on, historical criticism needs to broaden the horizon of interpretation by considering authors with different identities that change depending on the society of the time, the other, the context, and the reader. Reception aesthetics deconstructs the author’s identity free from the author’s constraints. It restores the myriad differences readers realize in their interpretations and aesthetic experiences through the fusion of horizons. However, reception aesthetics returns the reader to the territory of identity by positing the notion of implied reader, informed reader, or super reader. Reception aesthetics should focus more on empowering all readers equally and on the fusion of horizons through the reader’s constant hermeneutic circulation. Sociological poetics deconstructs the identities of the author and reader. This theory seeks to reveal the social nature of literature from an internal analysis of texts, seeking a dialogue between author and reader, text and socio-cultural context, and allowing different characters to speak in different voices according to their worldviews, and chronotopes. However, while it seeks dialogue, it is also substantive in its thinking, giving room for analysis, interpretation, and aesthetic evaluation to be reduced to identity. In the 21st century, sociological poetics should be based on the idea that goes beyond both dichotomies and substantialism, such as Hwaejaeng Buddhist thought, and oriented toward the difference while bringing together author and reader, author and context, theory, and textual criticism into one. In that case, it will be a theory that truly synthesizes formalist and Marxist criticism.
