김애란 소설에 나타난 죽음의미 연구

Abstract

이 글은 김애란의 단편소설에 나타난 다양한 형태의 죽음을 분석한다. 작품 속에 나타난 죽음의 양상을 통해 여기에는 어떤 가치와 의미가 담겨있는지 밝혀, 이를 통해 김애란의 죽음의식과 세계관을 이해하고자 한다. 「노찬성과 에반」에서는 ‘자살’이라는 주제를 다룬다. 작중 인물(들)은 책임감과 부담 사이에서 고민하다가 결국 자살하는 방식을 통해 타인에게 남겨질 부담을 줄이기 위해 자신의 책임을 다한다. 김애란은 이 작품을 통해 사회적 약자의 비극과 무력감을 보여주고 있다. 「그곳에 밤, 여기에 노래」에서 밀입국자인 명화는 생계를 위해 혹독한 노동을 견디다 위암에 걸려 병사하였다. 김애란은 작품을 통해 질병과 죽음이 인간관계와 심리에 미치는 영향을 섬세하게 그리며, 사회 최하층 사람들이 죽음을 직면했을 때의 고통을 드러내고 있다. 「어디로 가고 싶으신가요」에서 김애란은 세월호 참사로 인한 고통과 이를 극복하는 과정을 묘사하고 있다. 죽음은 개인의 경험일 뿐만 아니라 사회적 사건이기도 하다. 김애란은 이 작품을 통해 개체의 애도뿐만 아니라 재난에 맞닥뜨린 사회 전체의 애도와 치유를 반영하고 있다. 김애란은 죽음의 사회적, 문화적 의미를 소설을 통해 보여주고 있다. 죽음은 단순한 개인의 문제를 넘어서, 사회적 관계와 책임, 그리고 집단 내에서의 역할과 밀접하게 연결된다. 김애란은 개인적인 고통과 갈등을 사회적 맥락에서 이해하려 하며, 죽음을 통해 사회의 억압과 불평등을 드러내고 있다. 이 과정에서 죽음은 더 이상 개인의 문제가 아니라, 사회적 구조와의 상호작용 속에서 발생하는 결과로 나타난다.

This article analyzes the various forms of death in Kim Ae-ran’s short stories. Through the aspect of death in her work, we will reveal what values and meanings are presented, and through this, we will try to understand Kim Ae-ran’s perception of death and worldview. In the story of ‘Noh Chan-sung and Evan’ the topic of suicide is addressed. The character(s) in the work agonize between responsibility and burden, and then eventually do their part to reduce the burden that will be left to others by killing themselves. Through this work, Kim Ae-ran shows the tragedy and helplessness in the lives of the socially weak. In ‘The Night There, The Song Here,’ Myeonghwa, a smuggler, died of stomach cancer after enduring harsh labor for a living. Through her work, Kim Ae-ran delicately depicts the effects of disease and death on human relations and psychology, revealing the pain when people in the lowest reaches of society face death. In ‘Where Do You Want to Go,’ Kim Ae-ran describes the pain caused by the Sewol Ferry disaster and the process of overcoming it. Death is not only an individual’s experience, but also a social event. Through this work, Kim Ae-ran reflects not only the mourning of individuals, but also the mourning and healing of a whole society facing disaster. Kim Ae-ran shows the social and cultural meaning of death through novels. Death goes beyond just individual problems, and is closely connected with social relationships, responsibilities, and roles within groups. Kim Ae-ran tries to understand personal pain and conflict in a social context, and through death, she reveals social oppression and inequality. In this process, death is no longer an individual problem, but appears as a result of interaction with social structures.
