- Abstract
- Advanced sensor-system-integrated injection molding is a promising technology that can overcome long-lasting problems in the injection molding industry, improve product quality, increase productivity, and reduce total losses. Particularly, advanced sensor systems used in injection molding enable a leap forward in injection molding by implementing novel technologies such as in-situ process monitoring, in-line quality monitoring, and process optimization. In this review, state-of-the-art sensor utilization and applications in the injection molding industry are discussed, ranging from additional sensors utilized in sensor-integrated injection molding machines to advanced sensor applications incorporating artificial intelligence in the injection molding industry in the future. The requirements and challenges of advanced sensor systems in the injection molding industry are also highlighted while providing perspectives for future development.
