Abstract
To explore clinical profiles of panic disorder with lifetime traumatic events, this study examined past trauma history and current psychiatric symptoms among outpatients with panic disorder. In this cross-sectional study, we used the self-reported psychological data of 89 treatment seeking adults diagnosed with panic disorder at a psychiatric outpatient unit of a university-affiliated hospital in South Korea. Analyzed data included Life events checklist-5, Beck Depression Inventory, Beck Anxiety Inventory, PTSD checklist-5, Short form-8 health survey, and Insomnia severity inventory. Patients with self-reported lifetime trauma (n=58) had significant higher scores on depression, anxiety, and PTSD symptoms and lower household income compared to those without such trauma (n=31). However, the binary logistic regression analysis showed that only depression and lower income predicted patients with the lifetime trauma. This study reveals psychosocial correlates of past trauma among patients with panic disorder. Pertinent treatment intervention tailored for these individuals are needed.
