독자 응집성 기준의 조작적 정의 및 하위 구인 탐색

Abstract

이 연구는 응집성 기준(standards of coherence)을 실증적 차원에서 탐구하기 위해, 독자 응집성 기준을 조작적으로 정의하고 그 하위 구인을 탐색했다. 먼저 연구의 전제로서 응집성이 독자의 이해를 설명하는 개념이며, 이때 응집성은 글 전체의 맥락을 바탕으로 한 추론적 이해의 결과여야 한다는 기준을 설정했다. 다음으로, 응집성 기준을 정의하는 데 있어 관점이 분화되는 세 가지 쟁점을 짚어 논의하고, 독자 응집성 기준의 조작적 정의를 도출했다. 마지막으로 ‘이해에 대한 열망, 이해에 대한 태도, 이해를 위한 전략 사용’을 독자 응집성 기준의 하위 구인으로서 탐색했다. 이를 통해 응집성 기준의 개념을 명료화하고, 연구 설계와 교육적 적용의 가능성을 제고했다.

This study operationally defined readers’ standards of coherence and explored its sub-constructs to empirically investigate the standards of coherence as a reader variable. As a premise of the study, coherence was conceptualized as a mental representation of readers’ comprehension, which must be established through inferential understanding based on the global context of the text. Next, three key issues regarding divergent perspectives in defining standards of coherence were identified and discussed, leading to an operational definition. Finally, the study examined three sub-constructs of readers’ standards of coherence: desire for comprehension, attitudes toward comprehension, and the use of strategies for comprehension. The findings of this study help clarify the conceptualization of standards of coherence and enhance its potential for research design and educational applications.
