청소년의 부정적 친구관계와 사회적 위축 간의 관계에서 스마트폰 의존과 사이버비행의 이중매개효과

Abstract

본 연구는 청소년의 부정적 친구관계와 사회적 위축 간의 관계에서 스마트폰 의존과 사이버비행의 매개 역할을 검증하였다. 이를 위해 한국아동·청소년패널조사 2018 2차년도 자료(N=2,344)를 활용하여 PROCESS Model 4를 적용하고 성별, 학업만족도, 월 가구소득, 현실비행을 통제하였다. 분석 결과, 부정적 친구관계는 스마트폰 의존을 매개로 사회적 위축을 유의하게 심화시키는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 친구관계에서 소외되거나 갈등을 경험한 청소년일수록 스마트폰에 과도하게 의존하는 경향을 보였으며, 이러한 의존은 대면관계에서 경험하는 긴장과 소외를 회피하거나 정서적으로 조절하려는 행동 양식과 관련되면서 사회적 위축으로 이어지는 핵심 매개경로로 확인되었다. 반면 사이버비행의 매개효과는 유의하지 않았다. 이러한 결과는 청소년의 사회적 위축을 설명하는 디지털 행동 요인 가운데 스마트폰 의존이 보다 중요한 경로임을 시사하며, 사회적 위축 예방을 위해 스마트폰 사용의 심리적 기능과 친구관계 맥락을 고려한 상담 및 교육적 개입의 필요성을 제시한다.

This study examined how smartphone dependence and cyber delinquency mediate the relationship between negative peer relationships and adolescent social withdrawal. Data from the second wave of the 2018 Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey (N = 2,344) were analyzed using PROCESS Model 4, controlling for gender, academic satisfaction, monthly household income, and offline delinquency. The results indicated that negative peer relationships significantly increased social withdrawal through smartphone dependence. Adolescents experiencing exclusion or conflict were more likely to rely excessively on smartphones, with this dependence functioning as an avoidant coping mechanism that reinforced social withdrawal. However, the mediating effect of cyber delinquency was not significant. These findings suggest that smartphone dependence is a critical pathway among digital behaviors associated with adolescents’ social withdrawal. This highlights the need to consider the psychological functions and peer relational context of smartphone use in counseling and educational interventions aimed at preventing adolescents’ social withdrawal.
