Abstract
Purpose: This study aims to analyze the choreographic strategies of conceptual dance and Non-dansethrough Jérôme Bel’s The Show Must Go On, and to examine how the concept of choreography shiftsfrom the arrangement of movements to the organization of structure, relationships, and time. Methods:This study reviews the theoretical background of conceptual dance and Non-danse through literatureresearch, and conducts a case analysis of The Show Must Go On, focusing on delayed beginnings, themisalignment between pop songs and gestures, blackout, stillness, emptiness, floor patterns, andspectatorship. Results: The analysis shows that this work expands choreography into a structure thatorganizes rules, relationships, and the flow of time through non-movement devices and everydaygestures, rather than through refined movement or technical virtuosity. Conclusion: Jérôme Bel’s TheShow Must Go On transforms choreography from the composition of movement into a performativeevent that includes the interpretation and participation of the audience, thereby demonstrating theontological expansion of the concept of choreography in contemporary dance.
