A Parametric Analysis for a Multi-product Risk-averse Newsvendor

Abstract

We consider a multi-product risk-averse newsvendor with a parametric analysis approach. For this risk-averse decision maker with multiple products, we use a well-known risk measure, CVaR (Conditional Value-at-Risk), which has been recently used in inventory management as well as finance literature. We first study our comparative static analysis for the model parameters in a multi-item setting. Especially, under the identical product assumption with independent and symmetric product demands, we prove that the optimal ordering quantity monotonously increases when the risk tolerance factor increases. We also prove that the optimal ordering quantity asymptotically converges to the corresponding risk-neutral solution as the number of products goes to infinity. Finally, we conduct a Monte Carlo simulation to obtain numerical solutions. All our analytical results are confirmed in the numerical study.

본 저자들은 다품목 위험기피 뉴스벤더 모형에 대한 매개분석을 실시하였으며, 위험 측도로는 최근에 들어 재무관리 뿐 아니라 재고관리 문헌에서 활발하게 사용되고 있는 조건부 밸류 앳 리스크 (conditional value-at-risk)가 이용되었다. 본 모형에서 첫째로 다품목 하에서 모형의 모수들에 대한 비교정태분석 (comparative static analysis)을 실시하였다. 특히 품목들이 완전히 동일함과 동시에 품목 수요가 독립적이고 대칭적일 때 리스크 허용 요인 (risk tolerance factor)이 증가함에 따라 품목 별 최적 주문량이 단조증가됨을 증명하였다. 또한 이같은 최적해들은 품목 수가 무한히 증가함에 따라 근사적으로 위험 중립해에 근사함을 증명하였다. 최종적으로 몬테카를로 (Monte Carlo) 시뮬레이션을 실시하여 수리적 해 (numerical solutions)들을 구함으로써 모든 분석적 결과들을 확증하였다.
