- Abstract
- The heart rate (HR) and heart rate variability (HRV) in newborns are influenced by clinical and pathological conditions such as gestational and postnatal ages, status of sleep, neonatal infections, seizure, and other variables. Using an impulse radio ultra-wideband (IR-UWB) radar system, we assessed the HR and analyzed the HRV successfully in both time and frequency domain on a neonate, compared to conventional electrocardiogram (ECG). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study analyzing the HR and HRV in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) setting using non-contact IR-UWB radar.
