Abstract
In this paper, we propose a new three-dimensional (3-D) shape reconstruction method for multiple aspects under sparse array topology and small fractional bandwidth of commercial radar chip in two-dimensional (2-D) multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) impulse radio ultra-wideband (IR-UWB) array imaging system. The shape reconstruction method is based on delay-and-sum (DAS) algorithm, enables short range imaging in a particular environment. The images of the multiple aspects of the target are obtained by superimposing the data calculated at different positions. The experiment was performed on several targets with different shapes under a sparse cross array topology with an antenna spacing of 2.5 lambda and a commercial IR-UWB radar chip with a fractional bandwidth of 34%. According to the experimental results, the 3-D shape of multiple aspects of the target can be reconstructed and provide more information than imaging one aspect. Therefore, the results of this paper show that the more complex shape of the target can be reconstructed by using the proposed method. Furthermore, the method may be used in inspection applications to help make judgments in the future.
