- Abstract
- As population growth has fallen sharp in recent years, Korean government began looking for ways to rehabilitate the existing urban residential areas instead of replacing it with new apartment blocks. However, the current common housing type, called "Multi-family house“ has been spotted as the culprit that deteriorated the urban residential environment during the densification due to its genetic shortcomings. Many government funded researches have studied the alternative housing types which utilize party walls for the improve. Nevertheless, the relevant building regulations of Korea are not yet organized well enough for the practical application of party wall although a new enactment still in trial has been made to widen the opportunity in early 2015. Therefore, this thesis aims to examine UK party wall related regulations in detail as a reference to improve relevant Korean regulations. London was the first industrialized city in the world and its terrace house flanked with party walls has been in use since 18th century while influencing many countries such as US, Australia, Canada, Singapore, etc. UK’s Party Wall etc Act 1996 and Building Regulation Approved Documents are organized conjunctionally in detail to deal with all the relevant matters in many ways.
