- Abstract
- Professional baseball teams express their identities to the audience through the colors of their emblems and mascots. The emblem is a visual language that symbolizes a baseball team, making it easy to recognize by the audience as an abstract or conceptual image. The mascot is an identity element that audiences may prefer and are easily accessible. This study targets the top 5 teams in 2018 (10 teams) for each league among the teams in the two major leagues of Japanese professional baseball (Central League, Pacific League). This study intends to construct a visual identity by drawing differences in identity. Each baseball team's emblem and mascot color analysis extracted the main color and auxiliary color RGB color aimed I.R.I image scale substituted and then gave and analyzed the image. As a result of the detailed analysis, looking at the emblem color image, most teams are distributed in dynamic and hard emotional adjectives that represent colorful, dynamic, and modern. The mascot color matching image is distributed in the dynamic and soft emotional adjectives that most teams represent dynamic, colorful, cheerful, and cute. In the I.R.I Adjective Image Scale, the emblem is represented by adjectives such as individual, rhythmic, attractive, cool, innovative, strong, modern, progressive, and rough. On the other hand, mascots are expressed as individual, outstanding, colorful, cute, active, innovative, outstanding, progressive, urban, innovative, strong, modern, progressive, and rough. This study examines the correlation of the user's preference through an objective and empirical color code analysis method of the meaning of the emblems and mascots of the Japanese professional baseball team and is meaningful in both industrial and academic aspects.
