Abstract
Today, based on the development of IT technology, when time and space constraints disappear, and activities that have changed little by little due to COVID-19 become non-face-toface and online, they are rapidly changing into the Untact era. Accordingly, in modern offices, as the home office system was applied, interest increased, and home office products were attracted attention. However, since Korea has not yet reflected the changed business characteristics at the beginning stage, people are feeling dissatisfied with existing households. Therefore, this study aims to propose guidelines so that home office workers can use the changes in furniture shape and space reconstructed through prior research to derive design directions through usability, variability, and structural type, and use them in desk design development. To this end, we analyzed the similarities and differences between office and home office spaces and each product through literature research, and derived directions by grasping usability and variability through a desk case study based on the types reconstructed through prior research. In addition, detailed guidelines were proposed based on the derived direction. The guidelines proposed based on the above method are ‘Organization of an independent space that induces a sense of psychological stability’, ‘Maximization of efficiency and usability for multiple purposes’, and ‘A formative structural transformation tailored to the user's working environment’. This study is meaningful in deriving the direction of desk design based on the factors derived through prior research after realizing that desk design for workers is insufficient amid the increase in home office systems. This study is expected to be used as a design guideline that helps work smoothly by providing an efficient working environment through the derived direction.
