The high temperature and poor thermal comfort in urban areas increase various health diseases and threatened health of citizens. There have been attempts to mitigate these problems through changes in urban forms like layout of buildings. However, few studies investigated the effects of changes in physical layout of apartment complexes on thermal comfort levels that residents feel heat stress. This study compares the effects of three physical arrangements of apartment complexes on the thermal comfort through simulation of three ENVI-met models with different building types and arrangements of buildings for the Apgujeong Hyundai Apartment in Seoul, Korea. The result of this study indicates that the change in the layout of apartment complexes brought significant changes to wind and heat environment. Also, the current layout of the Apgujeong Hyundai Apartment is very disadvantageous in improving the thermal comfort inside the complex. This result calls for a planned building layout that considers the improvement of thermal comfort is required. Finally, this study suggests detailed step-by-step guidance and expansion of domestic policies for mitigating climate problems.-
