Abstract
Functional and/or aesthetic problems arise if the gap or flushness between an autobody and doors falls outside its desired ranges or is uneven. However, the gap/flushness quality depends on many factors, such as the part geometric quality, part deformation during the assembly process, and variations of the process, including deterioration of the assembly facilities. Therefore, in an actual assembly line, the gap/flushness is monitored and door assembly locations are adjusted with respect to the body-in-white assembly. The aim of the present study is to develop an algorithm for finding the best corrected assembly locations of the door for optimal gap/flushness, given on-site measurements of gap/flushness. The obtained result is expected to replace the current experience-based mtehod, reduce time and effort, and eventually enhance quality.
