- Abstract
- "This study aims to find the implications of exterior and interior design of an autonomous vehicle for reducing passenger motion sickness by observing prior developments. This study observed developing cases and finalized three scopes: general characteristics and trigger of motion sickness, embodiment conditions to reduce motion sickness of passengers, and implications of exterior and interior design. Watching the road and sleeping while the vehicle is in motion can trigger motion sickness. However, talking on the phone, working or playing games generate variations in the gazing direction. With the observation, it was concluded that the window glass area, interior lighting, and reclining seats serve as design factors that help reduce motion sickness in passengers. This result can not apply uniformly to all autonomous vehicles that are not common yet, and further research for detailed exterior and interior design of an autonomous vehicle for reducing motion sickness is needed.
