Abstract
This paper presents the computational analysis for the modeling techniques of a side airbag, which are the control volume method and the corpuscular method. The control volume method has been employed to simulate the simply shaped conventional airbags for simplicity. For the recently developed airbags with the complex geometry such as a side airbag, the corpuscular method provides the substantial reliability of simulations by describing the motion of particles. The simulations are performed with the models of a side airbag specifically designed with vent holes. The simulation results demonstrate that the corpuscular method would be an adequate modeling approach for the rigorous design process of a side airbag that has a complicate geometry with multiple design components.
