- Abstract
- Science museums differ from the other types of museums such as history or art museums in that their exhibition items are highly dynamic and diverse, which results from the facts that the exhibitions aim to encompass the entire areas of science, and that the subject of science exhibitions is not limited to a specific category, dealing with almost every aspect including history, culture and living. In science museum exhibition items, an important consideration is the visitor experience that uses various senses not limited to simple viewing in order to provide quality visitor experience. So far the evaluation of the exhibition items has been focused on their physical traits with insufficient research on the visitor-oriented evaluation of the exhibitions. To overcome the limitations, the study attempts to examine the possibility of exhibition items assessment and its theoretical background by applying NASA-TLX that is in wide use as a cognitive load measurement. Its additional purpose is to logically examine the methods of creating and applying an exhibition viewing measurement of visitors using mental, physical and temporal efforts and frustrations. The measurement created by the study is expected to be applied as an empirical tool for qualitative evaluation of exhibitions in actual environment.
