Abstract
Social, academic and educational interest in spatial reasoning has been on the rise. As spatial reasoning is a highly significant element in physical environment influencing preschool children, in particular, spatial elements, or spatial reasoning abilities, interact with space, preschool children’s perception, and experience, and at the same time serve as various intermediate elements of spatial reasoning. The study, based on preschool children’s cognitive development, drew four spatial factors (physical, sensory, cognitive-mental rotation, cognitive-mental transformation) of spatial cognitive development of preschool children, which were analyzed using six spatial cases in the early childhood care facilities. As a result, the four factors were found to have positive effects on the improvement of spatial reasoning abilities of preschool children. The study suggests spatial language as spatial reasoning ability applicable to the early childhood care facilities for preschool children. The study has significance in presenting the ground for improving child-centered spatial reasoning through space, not through teaching tools or lessons provided mainly by teachers.
