Abstract
Unlike other industries, in which the processes are conducted in controlled environments, the work processes in the construction environment are conducted on outdoor sites, resulting in their exposure to multiple unpredictable factors. For this reason, to enable and effective job management, it is desirable to find a method of checking overall project progress in a way that is both accurate and timely. In this regard, some attempts have recently been made to collect and analyze various data to implement construction job management, labor management and installed quantity measurement by using image processing technology, which has considerable potential to be used in diverse ways on construction sites. However, most applications of image processing technology in construction have been experimental, and cases of collecting and analyzing valid information from the images of complicated construction sites have been very rare. Accordingly, this study collected and analyzed different kinds of images of complex Euro Forms installation work in construction sites, and proposed a new image processing algorithm that could be used to measure the installed quantity of Euro Forms in an accurate and timely manner, and with minimal effort. The optimal algorithm proposed to measure the quantity installed was developed with OpenCV, applying a combination of H-S histogram, Binary pixel-position and Template Matching based similarity comparison. The accuracy of the proposed method was compared to existing methods using some images of construction sites.
