- 吳文英≪夢窗詞≫共收有三百四十首詞, 詞中使用夢字之詞幾乎達詞集的一半. 而夢窗詞最具代表性的九十餘首懷念姬妾的作品, 使用到夢字的也有五十餘首. 吳文英的愛情與夢同時出現的頻率之高, 筆者認為這是吳文英的一種感情反應. 吳文英將夢作為抒發自我的回憶, 悵惘, 感懷, 藉由夢來尋回往昔的歡樂, 思念的情人, 因此吳文英的夢是往來於現實之間的. 他還組成了不少夢字詞組, 讓夢字的角色在夢窗詞集的內容裏不僅是吳文英個人的感情窗口, 也具備了說明現實與非現實之間的介面効果. 吳文英也引用典故使夢的內容更符合詞人所欲傳達的心理狀態, 藉由用典也了解到吳文英雖一介平民,卻是博學多聞, 不僅用字精煉, 所引之典也適切地傳達了詞意, 豐富了詞語.
