- Abstract
- The current study explores possible correlation between learnerʼs personality types and academic accomplishment and preferences of learning style of university students as general French language learners. The instrument used for personality measurement was the enneagram test and the study was conducted with 329 university students in Korea. Enneagram personality type is to comprend that there are many different facets of human caracters. The most of korean academic students have difficulty in learning foreign language including French. To recognize their own enneatype might supplement studentʼs academic accomplishment of French language and expand their possibility. The collected data was analyzed using one-way ANOVA to see the answers to the following questions: what is the general profile of the Korean French learnersʼ enneatypes?; what kind of correlational relationship might be identified between learnersʼ enneatypes and academic accomplishment? And their preferences of learning style? Meaningful correlation was found in the increased accomplishment in terms of enneatypes 3 and 1. It was also found that enneatypes 7 and 8 exhibited a low grades in French language. On the other hand, enneatype was not as closely related with their preferences of learning style of the Korean student French learner. In short, as a pedagogical implications and suggestions based on the results of the current study, enneagram personality type theory might teachers to develop diverse students-centered teaching methods and enhance positive teacher-student classroom interaction.
