서울시내 상업가로의 색채 차이에 관한 연구

Abstract

For most shopping facilities in Seoul, the sizes and proportion of the signboards attached on their outer walls are so excessive that the building exterior colors are almost overridden by the signboard colors hung on them. As much criticized as the size of the signboards is their color. Dominant uses of the near-primary colors as well as the frequent uses of the strongly contrasting colors are also pointed out to have been causing severe visual confusion. In this context, the study takes six representative shopping districts in Seoul as the cases to test as to whether the color compositions among them are statistically distinguishable. Also, the color characteristics of each district are analyzed by their respective positions on the Munsell color circle. The major finding of the study is that, the less the area ratio between the complementary colors in the signboard, the greater the visual confusion it causes to the general public.
