Abstract
Brushwork and ink dispersion make it difficult to render 3D common objects in the style of sumi-e painting. We use sphere mapping with brush texture and an image processing techniques to simulate brushstrokes and ink dispersion. The whole process is implemented in shaders running on Graphics Process Unit (GPU) that allows fast and high-quality rendering 3D polygonal models in the style of sumi-e painting. We show several results which demonstrate the practicality and benefits of our system. © 2009 Springer Berlin Heidelberg.
