- Abstract
- Automatic Generation Control (AGC) is an important function for frequency control which is being implemented in the EMS system for the stable operation of power systems. The key feature of AGC is to back up governors for the control of system frequency of multi-machine systems. The governor has a role to regulate system frequency in several to ten seconds. But, the droop control concept which is applied to multimachine large systems results in steady state control error, on the other hand isochronous control logic does not allow steady state control error. Thus, multi-machine systems need AGC to compensate for the steady state error. AGC is a supplementary tool for frequency control and plays an essential role for the stable and reliable electricity supply to continuously fluctuating loads and contingencies. We are now developing K-EMS(Korea-Energy Management System) that can reflect characteristics of Korean power system. In this paper we address a tuning method of GUC (Generating Unit Controller) while keeping the governor performance.
