Abstract
In general, pre-existing urban design has been partially implemented. Besides, various problems including insufficient synthetic consideration and understanding of related sciences and institutions have been revealed during the implementation of urban design. Recently, however, efforts have been made to express visually synthetic urban culture which can represent the index of national power. For this, newly-changed stereoscopic and qualitative urban spatial policy -not flat and quantitative urban spatial policy- is needed. This paper suggests new strategy after analyzing present condition of domestic and foreign urban design. First, visual information about urban distance should be sectionalized and be exteriorized into easily readable design. Second, publicity system should be developed and information network should be constructed to systemically connect various urban information delivery media which are currently installed. Finally, the standard for classifying street furniture which form urban environment should be prepared and flexible coordination is necessary to implement more systemic urban design. National competitiveness arises from human-friendly and eco-friendly matter, not from the matter among nations. The very small thing is the real global thing. City will be able to establish direction and system through such a strategy : developing design which is integrated with identity, information, life and Interactive. Innovative outcome which can stimulate the five senses in the integrated media era establishes identity of city as well as of citizen and enhances the value. Furthermore, it will have an effect on enhancing national competitiveness.
