- Abstract
- In terms of the principle that architectural works should remain in the background of a exhibition, MIMOCA designed by Yoshio Taniguchiu is highly evaluated by the architectural community. In this study, the design methods and the characteristics of MIMOCA are investigated. Based on the results of this study, the applicability of the design methods to the contemporary art museums is also investigated. The design methods used in MIMOCA can be summarized as follows:
First, MIMOCA was constructed to be in harmony with the surrounding area, and it is a cooperative work of architects and artists.
Second. MIMOCA was designed to effectively deliver the characteristics of exhibits and the intent of artists to viewers, rather than emphasizing an architect's individual expression. By maximizing the functional aspects of the architecture, not the ornamental factors, the architecture is in the background of a exhibition.
