Abstract
We should understand Korean traditional music with tradition and origin of musical culture of East Asia at the same time. It means that the music need to be thought as a philosophy rather than just art. The purpose of a thesis is to prove this through many related thesis for the first time. To do this, I divide a result of those thesis into the times which are in the 1960s, 1980s, 1990s and 2000s then introduce, sum up and valuate the critical result of those thesis for each times. By this study, I have finally got a consequence that most thesis accept Korean music have affected by the Confucian Thoughts of Rites and Music called Yaeak sasang 禮樂思想 of China. In other words, Korean traditional music should understand and describe with musical culture of East Asia, not with Western's. Another interest thing that I have found is our own idea of elegant music known as P'ungnyudo 風流道 can be background of a thought for Korean traditional music.
