Abstract
This article is concerned with investigating the construction that has adverbial clause as obligatory argument. In this construction, adverbial clausal endings are restricted. The adverbial clausal endings of verbal construction are ‘-게(-ke), -도록(-torok), -려고(-lyoeko), -면(-myoen), -어서(-oesoe), -고(-ko), -며(-myoe)’, the adverbial clausal endings of adjectival construction are ‘-어도(-oedo), -어야(-oeya), -든지(-deunji)’ with concessive meaning. ‘-게’clause constitutes small clause construction, ‘-도록’clause and ‘-려고’clause mean the contents of action, these clauses are assigned Theme. On the contrary in small clauses of Korean, V and ‘-게’clause consist of complex predicate and then they subcategorize their arguments. In the last part of this paper, I distinguished adverbial clause as clausal argument from Auxiliary verb construction.
