Abstract
We focused on the cause of death of Jo, Myeong-Hee and his works to understand his literatures after his defection to the Soviet Union. As a result we found that he did not create poems that appeared ideological and political while they expressed socialist ideology. They are socialistic in terms of contents, but are nationalistic in terms of the form. But his poems has traditional rhythm and beat. Rather he accepted and developed the musical element of poems in a way that suits the reality of the place where he took refugee. Therefore he can be called as a nationalist author of Chosun. We saw the original poem and the criticism in ‘Seonbong’ Newspapers, which were published in Yeonhae-ju. All the collection of poem, including the first collection and the second collection which were published later, did not adopted the poems published in the newspapers, but were based on the first collection published first time in the Soviet Union in 1959. So, the poems were embellished and lost the musical character. The musical elements were removed from his poems and his poems were reduced to the praise of socialist ideology or the poems serving or encouraging political purpose. A lot of researchers did not appropriately understand the musical elements of his poems while they were researching on this first collection of poems. As a result, they drew the conclusion that his literature has some traits of socialism. Our confirmation of the original copy led us to the conclusion that his works are still more nationalistic than socialistic.
