- Abstract
- When a node becomes highly mobile, signaling overhead due to the registration becomes excessive in Mobile IP. To reduce this signaling overhead and provide smooth handoffs, many micro-mobility protocols have been proposed. But they still suffer from problems such as scalability and inefficiency in packet exchanges. To solve these problems we introduce a new micromobility protocol. In the proposed protocol, a domain is structured into two levels and both network-specific routing and host-specific routing are used to improve scalability. It also offers efficient mechanism for packet exchanges within a domain and clearly states the cooperation with Mobile IP during inter-domain packet exchange and handoffs. Through simulation, performance of the proposed protocol is compared with other protocols. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2005.
