Abstract
The leaky modes in circular dielectric rod waveguides were discussed. The analysis was based on the normalised phase and attenuation constants obtained using Davidenko's method. The analysis showed that for several lower-order transverse magnetic (TM) modes, the nonphysical leaky mode, antenna mode, reactive mode and spectral gap all existed below the cutoff frequency of the guided mode.
